Heavy Rains @ Hyderabad

30 August 2009 was bright sunny day and every one as usual was complaining of lack of rains . But to much of every ones suprise by midnight things started to change and cool breeze started flowing. Every one was glad that atleast temperature will cool down and none anticipated rains.

At 00:45 , 31 August 2009 it started raining heavily which none expected by 01:00 it was evident that its going to be a heavy downpour. When I peeped out of the window nothing was visible outside except the rain and the foggy view. Every one was glad that fianlly its raining heavily but my happiness was short lived and with lighting thunder electricity supply was gone and most parts of the Hyderabad was in darkness. This is nothing new even slight rain leads to power outage in Hyderabad.

Temperature inside my room was quite hot and then i decided open my windows , well this idea backfired and mosquioes started tormenting us. I was left with no other option to bear the heat inside well packed house and viewing the heavy downpour from windows.

Around three i decide i cant bear this heat any more , so decided to call the Andhra pradesh electricity complaint number 155333 , but all efforts to get in touch with electricity officials were in vain and phone repeated the pre recorded message " all lines you were trying to reach are curently , try after some time ". I tried calling desperately to the electricity department so many times but never recieved any response.

Then I tried sleeping in my room along with buzzing music of mosquitoes with no success. To add to my anger, APGenco switched on one phase in my lane was switched on but i wasn't so lucky enough. I was turning sides till 5 am then finally lights glowed in my room. By this time i was no longer sleepy, so decided to switch on television and by this time all local news channels were flashing news of heavy downpour across telangana region and Hyderabad too . More over one person lost life near Chaderghat near malakpet region, this was the first heavy downpur since monsoon season. Finally after short sleep i woke up around 9 am , even though my alarm was for 7 am :) . Quickly took bath and got ready for office and peeped out of the window and was glad that it was not raining so decided not to waste time in Hyderabad's worst traffic conditions and switch to bike today instead of car.

Well i was half way struggling traffic and pot holes in the busy roads towards Gachibowli , it started raining again :( . I got completely drenched by the time i reached office .Well you might be thinking finally my longgg sequence of events are done. Well NO :) . Now that i have reached office after being drenched with air conditioner switched on imagine whats my condition .

Hyderabad : Traffic Issues

Hyderabad is the fifth metro city of India , basically famous for its rich heritage and IT boom. Lately due to vast development and other factors , traffic condition has changed from bad to worst . Each individual creates his own traffic rules these days . Unless Hyderabad traffic police cracks the whip strongly things won't change .

We will try to bring out issues of every locality in the my each post , in this issue we will focus on the issues realted to Tolichowki and its surrounding areas, which are listed below:

  1. As seen in the above image , lorries are parked in the middle of the road.
  2. Seven seater auto's stop on the middle of the road or on the bus stops.
  3. All hotels and cafe's have zero parking space or very less than what is required.
  4. Hawkers occupy half of the road.
  5. Some stretch of road is in terrible condition.
  6. Less traffic constables monitoring.
  7. Bus stop is very close to the traffic signals and turnings, needs to be relocated.
If you wish to add any points to the above listed , feel free to post your comments.

Hyderabad Traffic : Few Solutions

Travelling in Hyderabad is turning out to be a nightmare with each passing day especially during peak office hours . Lately i have been writting a lot about Hyderabad's traffic conditions , well thats beacuse i m victim of traffic problems too . This traffic is taking 3 hours of life per day , thats almost 45 days per year i.e one and half month .

It time we start using the transport system intelligently rather than adding to the problem , well i would like suggest few ways that may reduce traffic problem to some extend if each and every starts thinking about this problem . They are as follows

  1. Increase usage MMTS (train) service to the maximum extend possible.
  2. Car and Bike pooling will also be great idea.
  3. Use routes which are less crowded.
  4. Do not buy new car unless you have parking space.
  5. Select the timings which are non peak hours.
  6. Prefer walking for short distances.
  7. Various MNC's should provide cab services to employee's as it pools up single vehicle.
  8. Discourage auto's and instead use cabs when number are passengers are more than 3.
  9. Drive sensibly and don't be a cause for traffic jams.
  10. Do not encourage beggars on the signals.

These are simple things if every one starts following may make a great positive impact in the traffic conditions.

Hyderabad : MMTS Train Schedule

MMTS , is the acronym (Full form or abbreviation ) for Multi Modal Transport System , this local train service is in the city of Hyderabad, India . This MMTS train service was started in the year 2003 in order to reduce the burden of city roads . Indeed these trains were able to pull up people, specially people working in and around the hitech city , madhapur started using MMTS .

For example , if you are at secunderabad and you wish to reach madhapur , the best and safest mode of transport will be this . Many people are turning towards these MMTS trains due to extremely horrible traffic conditions , specially during peak hours .

Government of Andhra Pradesh is going to start the METRO RAIL PROJECT which is anticipated to drastically improve traffic conditions of Hyderabad. But it at least take minimum of 4 years to get completed based on the progress of this project.

MMTS TRAIN FARES:
  • 0 - 10 kms : 3 rupees
  • 10 - 15 kms : 4 rupees
  • 15 - 20 kms : 6 rupees
  • 20 - 25 kms : 7 rupees
  • 25 - 30 kms : 8 rupees
  • 30 - 35 kms : 9 rupees
  • 35 - 40 kms : 10 rupees
Most of the people wishes to use MMTS but they are unaware of its timings , if you want to know MMTS train schedule , kindly use the link below and make sure you pass on this details to friends and relatives.

Hyderabad Traffic Issues

The next focus is on the traffic situation of masab tank area , inspite of recent road widening of this road things haven't changed drastically . Specially on the route from masab tank towards banjara hills is always over crowded and on top of it even the people are insensitive towards this issue and park vehicles right on the road. This is the high time when people should GROW UP .

Moreover footpath is like literally vanished from roads of Hyderabad or even if it exists it has been encroached by shop owners or hawkers or with parked cars & bikes . Even on the turning where road widening has been done , new temporary shops have come up and no action is being taken by concerned authorities and in no matter of time these will turn into permanent ones.

Hyderabad Traffic

Hyderabad - The City of Nawabs also know as city of pearls is growing exponentially at a drastic pace. Enormous growth in IT sector is attracting people to migrate from other cities and our Hyderabad city growing never like before . But same old problem prevails and is growing exponentially with each passing day . Unless the traffic is managed properly the traveling experience will continue to be a nightmare in areas like Abids, Kothi , Malakpet , Lakdi Ka Pool , Banjara Hills , Madhapur , Chaderghat , Dilsukhnagar , Ameerpet , Nampally and many more places of Hyderabad .

This snap is of the roads opposite to Ravindra Bharati auditorium where the traffic snails at almost whole day long. Well its the right time when traffic police of Hyderabad pull up the socks and punish the errant drives and the people who do not follow traffic rules . Other important issue is the lack of parking space which GHMC should take up .

Tale of 3 Comb's

When it was breezy morning and i was on my way to office , as usual the roads of Hyderabad were overflowing with vehicles. I needed to switch from main roads to narrow by lanes to avoid OFFICE GOING traffic. Finally after much struggle over came the traffic congestion at Banjara Hills , then came the spacious large roads of Jubilee Hills . I wish all the roads of Hyderabad where as spacious these , well but my happiness was short lived then came the huge blockade at Madhapur also known as HITECH CITY area , I wonder why are roads not the same here too inspite being the IT hub .

As usual i was late for office and wondering why was I late because i woke up late or it was because of traffic . My first thought obviously its because of TRAFFIC .....lol . Well to be honest i was late and on top of that this never ending line of CARS and me peeping out of the window and dreaming " mera green signal kab ayeega " ( when will the traffic lights turn Green ). My eyes were looking for narrow gaps so that i can squeeze out from them but all in vain .

Then wondering what to do till the signal turns green , next thought was to switch on the FM . My goodness all the FM channels where airing TELUGU songs and very poor at understanding those complicated Telugu language words . Well since I have joined this company , my environment demands me to speak n understand TELUGU at rapid pace . Well infact there is great improvement in my TELUGU language speaking skills obviously not perfect . Oh well but i m still in my car right now , then I switch off the FM radio channel .

Only option was to peep out of the window and see people around me , few them busy looking angrily at the cars and autos parked on the road side and rest people staring at the signal from a mile away . Then came a passenger auto beside me and to my shock they are almost 9 people sitting in an auto meant for 3 people . I wonder why cant those traffic constable see this , well then i thought come this a hyderabadi auto sab chalta hai :) .............

Well u all may be wondering but where is TALE of 3 COMB's ............ here it comes

Then i turned left side , as usual there was a man on bike , he was a normal man . Suddenly while glancing at him i noticed some thing multi colored is peeping out of his back pocket . Curiosity forced to stare again at his pocket , well u guessed right those where combs , yes indeed those where comb's . I could not resist that myself , snatched the camera from friends hand and then ........clicked :)

Well have a look at those 3 multi colored combs peeping out of his pocket , i wonder what does he do with other 2 Combs ....... lol . I could not stop smiling seeing at those comb's ..............

But smile was short lived as signal turns green and i had to race away with a smile on my face for all day along .

Hyderabad's Rainy Day

The day when it rained heavily in Hyderabad , this picture is of road near TANK BUND which is on the way to JAL VIHAR , new water park at NECKLACE Road. what say Hyderabad looks clean and green with pretty traffic free roads na !!!!!!!!!

Hyderabad roads : Banjara Hills

Isn't this picture portrays HYDERABAD roads image as clean , Green and traffic friendly .....lolz....... well don't ask about the rest of the city . Well I have taken this snap when i was waiting for a friend ( GUY ) at Banjara Hills locality , huh waiting is a really pain . I wish all the roads of Hyderabad were so user friendly , hopefully we will get to see some improvement in traffic conditions when outer ring road (ORR ) leading to the new Hyderabad airport at shamshabad is completely functional which is expected from 16 March 2008.

TATA claims TATA NANO to be PEOPLES CAR as it cheapest among all the existing cars . Bajaj has also launched small sized car but it is expected to slightly costlier than Tata's Nano car.Tata Motors drive to produce a cheap, no-nonsense, small car was inspired from close observation of a local market where millions often carry families of four, plus baggage on motorbikes or scooters.

This car is expected to hit the market within a span of 8 months but the point of debate are the issues that it will cause such as

  1. Serious Environmental concerns
  2. Traffic Congestion
  3. Parking Problems
  4. Increase in Accidents

Many environmentalist are opposing the launch of this car due to adverse effect on environment when everyone starts buying this car. Only way to counter is this by encouraging public transport system . Other way that economist are suggesting is to tax this car 'LIKE CRAZY' . This car is making me wonder the conditions of roads of hyderabad when it is available for sale , well that will not be only case of hyderabad infact whole of INDIA, rather may impact the whole world with advent of this trend .
