Gmail attachment size increased upto 20 MB

With Gmail, now you can send and receive messages up to 20 megabytes (MB) in size, that means no need to zip files or break them into pieces for sending .However, the exact size allowable will depend on the attachment .

When you add an attachment, the size of a file may increases because transport encodings are automatically added. Transport encodings are the information that allows your safe transmission of your message .

In some cases, attachments that are in between 17 to 20MB in size may push the total message size above 20MB. When this happens, Gmail displays a warning that your message exceeds the 20MB limit.

Please note that you may not be able to send larger attachments to contacts who use other email services with smaller attachment limits. When u want to send larger attachments send only on their Gmail accounts .

What is GNU ?

The GNU Project, pronounced “guh-noo”, was launched in 1984 to develop a complete UNIX style operating system which is comprised of free software: the GNU system. Variants of the GNU operating system, which use the Linux kernel, are now widely used.

The GNU project is closely linked to the philosophy of free software, which is central to the projects that derive from it, such as Ubuntu.

What is LINUX

The Linux kernel, pronounced 'linnuks' is the heart of the Ubuntu and many more other operating system. A kernel is an important part of any operating system, providing the communication bridge between hardware and software.

Linux was brought to life in 1991 by a Finnish student named Linus Torvalds. At the time, it would run only on i386 systems, and was essentially an independently created clone of the UNIX kernel, intended to take advantage of the then-new i386 architecture.

The Linux kernel has gained an ideological importance as well as a technical one. There is an entire community of people who believe in the ideals of free software and spend their time helping to make open source technology as good as it can be.
People in this community gave rise to initiatives such as Ubuntu, standards committees that shape the development of the Internet, organizations like the Mozilla Foundation, responsible for creating Mozilla Firefox, and countless other software projects from which you've certainly benefited in the past.
The spirit of open source, commonly attributed to Linux, is influencing software developers and users everywhere to drive communities with common goals.

LINUX : Ubuntu installation guide

these are the steps to be followed to install LINUX - UBUNTU , which is an open source .

1. Install winxp on the primary partition, i.e. first partition [ C ]. NTFS format is recommended.

2. Make a FAT32 partition of about 10 GB [ advisable ].

3. Make other partitions but ensure that you leave unpartitioned space of about 10 GB for Ubuntu.

4. Insert Ubuntu cd or dvd, change boot priority to cd-rom from bios settings, reboot. Installation is very simple and self explanatory you will have 10 GB remaining on HD, select the unpartitioned space for installing ubuntu. install Ubuntu 'after' installing windowsxp.

5. Grub will be auto configured after installation and at the boot you will be prompted to start windows or Ubuntu.

Note: You will need a 10 GB (or more) partition because Linux and Windows both can easily read and write on FAT 32. NTFS is supported to an extent in Linux but the stability is no where near that of FAT32. You can also move the multimedia files, mp3 and video clips [or any files you want to share] to FAT 32 partition and can access these files from both Ubuntu and windows. Plus if you are new to Linux you might need to reinstall ubuntu after messing up, Fat32 can be used as a backup partition since it won't be modified by reinstalling ubuntu. So it is advisible to have FAT32 for installing Ubuntu but NFTS is better for XP alone .

US consulate in Hyderabad

US Ambassador David C. Mulford said his country’s fourth consulate in the city would be operational by the end of 2008 in hyderabad . Mr Mulford and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy on Tuesday signed a lease agreement for establishing the consulate at Paigah Palace for 5 years .

Earlier US President George W. Bush had promised to establish a consulate in Hyderabad during his visit to India and support of $ 7.6 million was announced for this. Hyderabad was chosen because of its strategic location and its strengths in the areas of biotechnology, information technology and many other fields.

Mr Mulford went on to say that Hyderabad was a well managed city with fewer problems .He thanked the Chief Minister for allotting 12 acres of prime land near Gachibowli for the permanent consulate, which would take nearly five years to complete.Demand for US visas from the State was growing year by year and the present consulate at Chennai was unable to cater to the demand, said Mr Mulford.
